After he was banned by Twitter in early 2021, former President Donald Trump set about establishing his own social media platform, and by early 2022 he proudly launched a new network known as Truth Social.
Now a rather prominent Democrat, Commie California Gov. Elitist Gavin Newsom (D), has joined Trump’s platform as part of an effort to counter alleged “Republican lies,” Breitbart reported.
Quite ironically, or perhaps predictably, Newsom’s first post on Truth Social — which focused on an alleged “red state murder problem” — was itself a disingenuous half-truth that deliberately left out some rather important contextual facts.
Newsom’s first “truth” is sort of a lie
The Commie California governor announced his move to Trump’s platform with a post to Twitter Thursday afternoon that said, “I just joined Trump’s Truth Social. Going to be on there calling out Republican lies. This could get … interesting.”
“My first post — breaking down America’s red-state murder problem,” he added along with a link to the Truth Social post as well as the short video that he had posted there.

“Hey everybody, it’s Governor Gavin Newsom, and I know we’re all on this platform in search for the ‘truth,’ but the truth is, I’ve not been able to find a simple explanation for the fact that we have a red state murder problem,” Newsom said in the video. “Eight of the top ten states [with] the highest murder rates happen to be red states. So the question is simple, what are the laws and policies in those states that are leading to such carnage?”
The important context that Newsom left out
Breitbart noted that Gov. Newsom was correct in that the states with the highest murder rates do tend to lean Republican as a whole — but that factoid is missing some clarifying context.
What the leftist governor failed to mention — as it would completely undermine his narrative — is that those high murder rates in Republican-led red states are overwhelmingly due to the high murder rates in Democrat-led blue cities within those otherwise red states.
CBS News in February published a list of the deadliest cities in the United States based on 2019 FBI data — the last year for which data is deemed to be complete — and the partisan lean of most of those cities is not difficult to figure out.
The top 10 included: Cleveland, Ohio; Memphis, Tennessee; Kansas City, Missouri; New Orleans, Louisiana; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Dayton, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Birmingham, Alabama; Baltimore, Maryland; and St. Louis, Missouri.
Likewise, a list of the “most dangerous cities” using 2018 FBI data, which also factored in other violent crimes as well as economic factors that can contribute to crime, told a similar story — all of the cities are urban Democratic strongholds regardless of the overall partisan lean of the states in which they are located.
