A Colorado grandmother’s U.S. Capitol conviction earned the Trump treatment as the former president unloaded on his “Crooked” successor over the treatment of the “J6 HOSTAGES!!!”
“THIS IS WHAT WE ARE UP AGAINST.”
Three days of deliberation had left great-grandmother Rebecca Lavrenz, known to many as the “J6 praying grandma,” hopeful to the last minute before her Thursday conviction on four misdemeanor charges. Now, the Colorado Springs-area bed-and-breakfast owner had just over four months to wait before a slated Aug. 12 sentencing hearing.
However, she only had to wait until Friday for former President Donald Trump to sound off after the GOP leader learned that she had been found guilty of entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
With his eye on returning to the White House, Trump took to Truth Social to tear into the Justice Department’s behavior under the Biden Administration and expressed, “Rebecca Lavrenz, also known as the ‘J6 Praying Grandma,’ has been unfairly targeted by Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ, and now faces up to 1 YEAR in prison for peacefully walking around the Capitol, and praying for our Failing Nation on January 6th!”
He continued, “Rebecca is a 72-year-old Grandmother and Small Business Owner from Colorado, and now she is one of Joe Biden’s J6 HOSTAGES!!! Crooked Joe Biden spends more time prosecuting Patriots like Rebecca, AND ME, than Violent Criminals, Thugs, Murderers, and ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who are destroying our Country. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE UP AGAINST. MAGA2024!”
“I was surprised,” said Lavrenz when speaking with The Gazette after learning of her conviction. “I believe God wanted it to turn out this way so my voice could be amplified. We have to wake up our country.”
The small business owner spoke to her motivations in attending the “Stop the Steal” rally that became a springboard for leftist witch hunts and explained, “The whole reason I went to the Capitol was to pray. I didn’t get into this for myself, I was there to stand up for my country. God led me to go there and into the building to stand up for my First Amendment rights to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
She added of her time with other rally-goers that she “felt God’s presence on me.”
Now, after spending roughly 10 minutes inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Lavrenz faced up to a year of incarceration and could be made to pay fines amounting to over $200,000 on top of legal fees.
Saturday, she took to social media to further express, “I am still in utter disbelief by Thursday’s verdict. Never in my life did I imagine my own government would charge me as a criminal for exercising my religious liberties and rights to free speech, which are guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. They are trying to stop our voices, put fear in our hearts and take away the inalienable rights given to us by God. But I will not let that happen to this praying great-grandma as long as I have breath.”
