How would you celebrate a big victory? Especially in politics?
Knewz.com has learned one supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin marked his reelection by displaying a photo of large numbers of people being hanged.
The display occurred even before the polls closed across Russia. Television host Marat Bulatov put the photo on the screen as a hint to Putin’s critics and enemies.
“Here they are! This is how they ended up,” Bulatov said on Saturday, March 16. “There is no other way. Enough with half-measures. Traitors have to be dealt with in a radical way.”
The prominent individual in the hanging photo was Andrey Vlasov, a Soviet army commander during World War II who tried to recruit Nazi war prisoners to attempt an overthrow the leader of the Soviet Union, Josef Stalin.
During his victory celebration on March 17, The Daily Beast reports Putin referred to history — much like he did during his interview with Tucker Carlson — and mentioned Vlasov.
“During the Great Patriotic War, there was a formation created by the traitor Vlasov—the Vlasovites,” Putin said.“They also fought against their homeland with weapons in their hands. How they ended up is well known.”
The United States government-run Radio Free Europe confirms Vlasov was executed in August 1946, after he was captured by Allied forces and exchanged for Soviet-held prisoners.
There are competing narratives when it comes to Vlasov. Some historians claim Vlasov’s troops saved Prague (currently part of Czechia) from being overrun by the Nazis during the dying days of the war in May 1945.
But to Putin and his supporters, Vlasov was a traitor, and as Bulatov explained, the picture was posted to show it was worth a 1,000 words.
Yet Putin made another reference to Vlasov, which was more of a tribute to Russians fighting against Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian version of Pravda, the president compared the Russian Volunteer Corps to Vlasov’s fighters. The RVC is being “thrown like cannon fodder into meat-grinder assaults on the state border,” Putin said.
Putin admitted about 800 RVC members have died in action, out of 1,500 who volunteered. But he warned any “traitors” will be treated “as if they were in a war zone.”
RadarOnline noted in December 2023 that Putin promised to keep fighting the West until his dying day.
Putin’s landslide reelection, which some Western critics said was rigged, thrilled his Russian television supporters.
“I feel like a child! I want to simultaneously cry and explode! It’s a feeling of total happiness!” host Marina Kim said during a live broadcast from Red Square. She covered an event marking 10 years since Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine.
“All of us are celebrating the electoral victory of Vladimir Putin!” Kim added. The Central Election Commission reports Putin received an estimated 87% of the vote.
The passion for Putin even crept into a weather report on Monday morning, March 18.
Evgeny Tishkovets, whom Knewz.com recently noted sometimes connects the climate with potential Russian attacks, declared: “Our fifth ocean, the sky, is rejoicing over the victory of our president!”
The Weather Channel notes in reality, March 18 was a cloudy day in Moscow with a high of 37 degrees Fahrenheit.
