Tuesday is the day far-left San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin will learn whether he survived the recall effort that grew from widespread outrage over his progressive policies many believe have exacerbated crime in his city, and according to author Vivek Ramaswamy, Democrats lose no matter what happens.
During an appearance on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, Ramaswamy, who wrote Nation of Victims, offered his take on the fate of Boudin, whose “woke,” soft on crime stances have been blamed for the homelessness, crime, and drug epidemic gripping his city.
“I think this is actually a lose-lose for the Democrats. A lot of people forget that this is not a Republican-led effort. This is led by a former chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party, so in the event the recall succeeds…I think that’s an indictment of someone like Chesa Boudin,” Ramaswamy said.
The sword, however, can cut both ways, according to the author, who added, “[i]n light of the fact that it fails, I think it is actually showing the fact that this is a party that’s actually been taken over by a cancerous wing that’s at the far-left end of the spectrum.”
As Fox News reported separately, those who support the retention of Boudin have heralded his commitment to keeping campaign promises such as eliminating the use of cash bail, sending fewer people to jail, and limiting the prosecution of so-called “quality-of-life” crimes such as disorderly conduct, loitering, and vagrancy.
According to Ramaswamy, criminals tend to take note of district attorneys such as Boudin and feel less constrained to engage in lawlessness when they see that even serious offenses are not met with stringent punishments.
Further, he argues, prosecutors such as Boudin have contributed to a feeling of justification among criminals due to their emphasis on a narrative of systemic racism that has prevented certain groups from achieving their fair share of success in American society.
“The underlying agenda, it’s justified by this philosophy that says…your crime is legitimate in some ways, because that’s the core claim of the defund the police, the BLM movement, the clear the jails movement is that the system is so rigged, the system is so flawed with so much systemic racism…that justifies even psychologically in the mind of the criminal to say that not only am I going to get away with it…I’m even justified in doing it because I’m sticking it back to the system,” the author stated.
Even though as of Tuesday, it still remains to be seen whether Boudin keeps his job following the vote count, it seems certain that a surprisingly larget number of people in deep blue San Francisco agree with recall spokesperson Richie Greenberg who aptly declared, “having him in with his malicious, fraudulent…pro-criminal, pro-drug-dealer policies is something that we should have never had to suffer through.”
