“Canada’s contribution to the annual increase in the globe’s temperature is less than a thousandth of a degree,” states an article this week written by former Canadian Finance Minister, Joe Oliver.
On April 1, 2024, the Liberal government of Canada raised its carbon tax to $80 a tonne. The rate will continue to rise annually by $15 until it reaches $170 a tonne by 2030.
In 2023, nearly two million Canadians used a food bank in a single month. A family of four will have to pay $700 more in groceries in 2024 compared to last year. As part of a government plan to quadruple the tax, the carbon tax increased by 23% as of the beginning of April.
