I’s been a LONG TIME since a Republican has won a Senate election in blue state New Jersey.
Over half a century, in fact.
Curtis Bashaw thinks he’s the man who’s going to be able to break that losing streak.
Bashaw claims to be legitimately optimistic about his party’s prospects to end the decades-long run of failure in the Garden State.
Curtis Bashaw is one of the two leading contenders in a multi-candidate field in June’s GOP Senate primary in New Jersey.
“I can’t wait to see how we prove to the rest of the country that New Jersey is a lot more purple than people realize,” he added in an interview with Fox News.
Despite Republicans not having a great track record in the state, Bashaw is desperate to win the Republican nomination because he believes “this is a once in a generation opportunity.”
One of the major reasons that Bashaw is so optimistic about New Jersey is the fact that Democratic Senator Bob Menendez is really sullying the reputation of Democrats in New Jersey.
Bobby Boy Menendez and his wife were indicted last year on federal corruption charges, and as a result, Bob is not running for re-election as a Democrat to get his seat back.
Instead, Menendez is considering an independent run, which would give a HUGE boost to whichever conservative is facing off in the contest.
With Menendez an established Democrat, many liberal voters will still probably pull the trigger for him. However, many liberals will be so disgusted by the incumbent that the go for the new person the Democratic National Committee puts up.
If these votes split the right way amongst the competition, then that could be exactly the opening that a Republican needs to capitalize on this situation.
Could it really happen?
Curtis seems to think so, but do you?
