Joe Biden has made two recent statements that the liberal horde will not like.
The first was in announcing his lack of support for expanding the court.
Then he made an abortion announcement that will surely cost him votes in 2024.
Not My Thing
Biden has been fighting very hard to keep abortion laws intact since taking office.
This has even been to the point of using government funds to pay for abortions, which goes directly against the Hyde Amendment.
I bring that up because Biden supported the Hyde Amendment during his entire Senate career, but now he is reversing course to get more liberal votes.
While speaking in Maryland, Biden provided a line that will be edited into many GOP ads this upcoming election season.
He stated, “So I’m, you know, I happen to be a practicing Catholic.
“I’m not big on abortion. But guess what? Roe v. Wade got it right.”
Well, Joe, the Catholic faith forbids any abortion, so saying that Roe v. Wade got it right does not fall in line with your faith, so you need to figure that one out.
Biden dove a bit deeper, saying something that also goes against the fact that the liberal horde wants to have abortions available with no exceptions right up until the moment of birth.
He stated, “Roe v. Wade cut in a place where the vast majority of religions have reached an agreement. Historically, the first three months or thereabouts, in all major religions, was: That’s between a woman and her doctor.
“The next three months is between, I mean, just a woman and her family.
“Next three months is between a woman and her doctor.
“The last three months have to be negotiated, because you can’t — unless you are in a position where your physical health is at stake you can’t do it.”
Thinking realistically, I have always believed that the sweet spot to get any meaningful legislation would like in the 16-20 week period.
Conservatives would not like it, but there is simply no way we would ever see a national ban on abortion enforced.
Polls have shown that more than 70 percent of all Americans, including conservatives, think abortion should be legal with exceptions.
We have seen legislation put forth before by conservatives, but again, Democrats really do not want this issue legislation because it would prevent them from making this a hot-button topic during an election.
So, realistically, I would not expect to see any legislation signed on this front anytime soon unless either party gets a supermajority in both chambers of Congress as well as holding the White House at the same time.
In this day and age, I don’t think we will ever see that again.
