WASHINGTON — White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre offered condolences Thursday following the death of OJ Simpson — but made no mention of the two people he was accused, and sensationally acquitted, of killing nearly three decades ago.
“Our thoughts are with his families [sic] during this difficult time — obviously with his family and loved ones,” Jean-Pierre said at her regular briefing.
“And I’ll say this, I know that they have asked for some privacy. And so we’re going to respect that. And I’ll just leave it there.”
Simpson, a former NFL star, is best known for being arrested and charged in the murder of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman, on June 12, 1994. After years of known physical abuse toward Nicole, and the overwhelming amount of physical evidence linking him to the horrific murders, Simpson managed to walk free. A jury of nine Black people, one Hispanic and two Whites found him not guilty on October 3, 1995.
Simpson was later found liable for Brown and Goldman’s deaths in 1997 civil trial and ordered to pay $33.5 million to Goldman’s family.

Meanwhile, a video clip is circulating on social media from an interview with one of the jurors who allowed Simpson to walk free.
She admitted that “about 90%” of the jurors knew OJ was guilty of murder, but let him off as payback for the Rodney King case. King, a Black man, was severely beaten by Los Angeles Police officers on March 3, 1991, during his arrest after a high speed chase for driving while intoxicated.
