Robert F. Kennedy Jr. chose ultra-liberal tech entrepreneur Nicole Shanahan as his running mate on Tuesday and immediately raised $2 million from the American Values 2024 super PAC at a cocktail party fundraiser held for about 60 donors.
Shanahan’s candidacy appears to be strengthening Kennedy’s bid rather than weakening it, leading former President Donald Trump to say that Kennedy is “good for MAGA.”
“They were clearly energized by RFK Jr’s VP pick Nicole Shanahan,” PAC head Tony Lyons said in a statement to The Hill. “We raised $2,120,000, which proves that attendees see that Mr. Kennedy now has an increasingly clear path to the presidency.”
“Many had said previously that they liked him and they trusted him but felt he couldn’t win,” Lyons continued. “With 70 percent of Americans wanting an option other than Biden and Trump, more and more voters are beginning to understand what Mr. Kennedy would do as president; they are listening to his ideas and his policies and they like what they hear.”
Most radical candidate
Trump said about the pair, “RFK Jr. is the most Radical Left Candidate in the race, by far. He’s a big fan of the Green New Scam, and other economy killing disasters,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I guess this would mean he is going to be taking votes from Crooked Joe Biden, which would be a great service to America.”
He added, “His running mate, Nicole Shanahan, is even more ‘Liberal’ than him, if that’s possible. Kennedy is a Radical Left Democrat, and always will be!!! It’s great for MAGA, but the Communists will make it very hard for him to get on the Ballot,” he said. “Expect him, and her, to be indicted any day now, probably for Environmental Fraud!”
So far, Kennedy only has enough signatures to be on the ballot in a few states: Arizona, Michigan, Georgia, Hawaii, and South Carolina. He submitted enough signatures to be on the ballot in Nevada but they are currently under review.
Kennedy has a lot of work to do to get on the ballot in all 50 states, but even the few states where he will appear could be enough to deny President Joe Biden the victory since many of them are swing states where voting is likely to be close.
Will it last?
Of course, if he doesn’t get on every state’s ballot, voters may change their minds and decide to vote for someone who might actually be able to get elected.
The campaign is already running ads for November, such as the one he ran for the Super Bowl.
American Values 2024 said it will spend at least $10 million and up to $20 million on ads, a paltry sum compared to the two major candidates but still a large chunk of change to woo an electorate where a large majority of voters are not happy with the choice between Trump and President Joe Biden.
Kennedy is polling as high as the low 20s in some polls, which is more than enough to have an influence and room to grow from there by November.
He really isn’t any better than Biden or Trump, but voters are latching onto any viable alternative in many cases.
Democrats are reportedly in a panic about Kennedy’s candidacy, knowing that if he sticks it out he could cost Biden everything.
