The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a targeted strike on the headquarters of Iran’s state-run broadcaster, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), in Tehran on Monday.
The attack, which occurred during a live news broadcast, disrupted IRIB’s operations and was described by Israeli officials as a strategic move to dismantle Iran’s propaganda apparatus.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz had hinted at the operation earlier, stating that the IDF was preparing to target IRIB, calling it the “mouthpiece of Iranian propaganda and incitement.”
Reports indicate that the strike caused significant damage to the broadcaster’s infrastructure, though exact casualty figures remain unconfirmed. Iranian state media condemned the attack, accusing Israel of using civilians as human shields by striking a civilian facility.
The strike on IRIB comes amid a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, military bases, and key infrastructure since Friday, prompted by intelligence suggesting Iran was close to developing a nuclear weapon.
Iran has retaliated with multiple barrages of ballistic missiles aimed at Israeli cities, resulting in civilian casualties and significant damage.
The international community has expressed concern over the escalating violence, calling for restraint from both sides. The United States, while not directly involved in the strikes, has assisted Israel with missile defense and reiterated its commitment to a diplomatic resolution. As the conflict enters its fourth day, the region remains on edge, with fears of further escalation looming.
