Good Samaritans came to the rescue of a Florida woman and her two small children as they were in the process of being kidnapped.
That’s according to the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office, which said in a social media post the potentially devastating incident took place on March 12 outside a Department of Motor Vehicles office.
A man, later identified as 26-year-old Yanni Human, is seen in the footage driving off “against the woman’s will, dragging her and one of the children through the parking lot,” the JSO post stated.
At the same time, a number of people are seen rushing to the woman’s aid as she desperately tried to pull her two children, ages 6 months and 2 years, from the vehicle.
“More than a dozen Jacksonville Good Samaritans stepped in during a dangerous situation, potentially saving a mother and two children from serious injury or worse,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
Police were able to locate Human based on witness accounts and video footage and he was arrested later that same day — it is unclear if the man and woman knew each other.
“This situation could have ended in tragedy,” the sheriff’s office added. “Your JSO is grateful for the quick action and bravery of the Good Samaritans who stepped up and helped bring the suspect to justice.”
Human faces multiple felony charges, including child abuse and false imprisonment. He was also charged for battery, marijuana possession and resisting an officer without violence.
