Hours after President Donald Trump bragged about his relationship with Vladimir Putin, the Russian President launched a massive overnight airstrike on Kyiv, injuring over 150 people and killing 15—including an elderly American citizen.
According to reports, Russia bombarded the Ukrainian capital with 175 drones, 14 cruise missiles, and two ballistic missiles, Knewz.com has learned.

The overnight attack on Tuesday is being considered the deadliest attack on Kyiv this year.
The Interior Ministry of Ukraine reported that 139 people were injured in the Ukrainian capital alone. Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko announced that Wednesday, June 18, would be an “official day of mourning.”
“During the attack on Kyiv, a 62-year-old U.S. citizen died in a dwelling in the Solomianskyi district opposite where medics were providing assistance… Medics noted his clinical, biological death,” the Kyiv Mayor further said.

Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko reported that explosions could be heard across Kyiv for almost nine hours, and that dozens of apartment buildings were destroyed in the overnight strike.
Overall, Putin’s forces unleashed a barrage of more than 440 drones and 32 missiles, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Telegram. “Our families had a very difficult night, one of the biggest attacks from the very beginning of this war,” the Ukrainian President said after arriving at the G7 summit in Canada.
“More than 440 drones and 32 missiles. One of the most horrific attacks on Kyiv. Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv region, Zhytomyr region, Kirovohrad region, Mykolaiv region, and Kyiv region were also attacked during the night,” President Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

“Such attacks are pure terrorism. And the whole world, the United States and Europe, must finally respond in the way that a civilized society responds to terrorists,” he added.
“Putin is doing this solely because he is allowed to continue the war. He wants this war to go on. It is a failure when the powerful of this world turn a blind eye. We are in contact with all partners at all possible levels to ensure a proper response,” the Ukrainian President further wrote in his social media statement.
The massive strikes on Ukraine came merely hours after President Trump urged world leaders at the G7 summit in Canada on Monday to allow Russia back into the international forum.
Notably, Russia was ousted from the major power grouping, which was then known as the G8, after the invasion and annexation of Crimea in 2014.
Speaking at the G7 summit on Monday, Trump called the removal of Russia from the forum a “big mistake,” adding that Putin would have never invaded Ukraine if he were “still at the table.”

“You spend so much time talking about Russia, and [Putin’s] no longer at the table, so it makes life more complicated, but you wouldn’t have had the war,” Trump was quoted as saying at the summit.
He also claimed to be the only G7 leader the Russian President still talks to, saying, “He doesn’t speak to anybody else. He doesn’t want to talk because he was very insulted when he got thrown out of the G8, as I would be.”
According to reports, Trump also showed a hint of reluctance to impose sanctions on Russia if Putin does not agree to a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine, arguing that sanctions “cost the U.S. a lot of money, you’re talking about billions and billions of dollars.”
It is worth noting that Trump had to leave the G7 summit early amidst rising tensions between Israel and Iran, meaning he would not be present at the scheduled breakfast discussion about Ukraine on Tuesday, which President Zelensky is set to attend.
