Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul has angered New Yorkers after vowing to provide taxpayer-funded support for illegal immigrants who want to remain in the country.
In a clip posted to social media, Hochul announced the state of New York will pay $50 million in legal fees for migrants.
“[Illegal aliens are] walking out of this courthouse, taken away from their families. They don’t have the attention. They don’t have the lawyers,” Hochul told the media.
She then announced that these individuals would be receiving legal help to stay in the country.
“And that’s why, the state of New York is providing $50 million dollars to cover legal services for people who are finding themselves in this situation,” she stated.
This means New Yorkers who pay taxes will now see their money used to help people that many believe shouldn’t be here in the first place.
Hochul’s announcement could significantly damage her re-election prospects in 2026.
