New York just took a big step toward what many call “state-sponsored suicide.”
The state Assembly passed the “Medical Aid in Dying Act” on Tuesday. The proposed legislation passed after five hours of emotional debate in an 81-67 vote, with about 20 Democrats opposing the measure, the New York Post reported.
If the measure becomes law, it would allow a mentally competent adult with a terminal diagnosis of six months or less to opt for a lethal dose of drugs. N.Y. Governor Kathy Hochul has not weighed in on the measure’s passing in the state Assembly.
Tuesday’s vote marked the first time the bill has ever passed either house of the Legislature, the Post reported.

Democrat Assemblywoman Amy Paulin sponsored the legislation after her sister died from ovarian cancer.
“I don’t know whether she would have availed herself of this medication if she had the opportunity, but I can tell you that when she died, I wasn’t there,” Paulin said, according to the Post.
“When she died, my other sisters were not there, and that was her wish,” she said.
Other Democrats argued that legislation would allow terminal patients to die with dignity.
Opponents of the measure, however, warn that the legislation is a slippery slope.
“Each and every life has value,” Republican Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh said on the Assembly floor. “Progress may not be on a straight line and will look different to each of us, but this idea of giving up and dying is not excelsior, ever upward. It’s incredibly sad,” she said.

New Yorkers are paying for the healthcare of non-citizens, but will help Americans die. Let that sink in.

This stuff needs to be super strict, this could become a slippery slope and turn into an excuse for malicious people to take out an ill family member for financial gain.

You mean like this?:
So much cheaper to get rid of people that may cost healthcare to much money to keep alive.
Canada this started under the cover of being virtuous, now their healthcare sends the ‘3 pills’ if they ask for a ramp for their wheelchair, depression,diabetes..— JWGavle (@JwGavle) April 30, 2025
It’s not enough to tax you to death, now they really will kill you.

The culture of death continues its long vile march.

Just as in Canada, this bill will be the basis for euthanizing the poor, the disabled, the mentally ill.
It never stops at “death with dignity” and always devolves into wholesale mass murder of inconvenient, expensive people. https://t.co/GJOk8cUZSX
