Former President Donald Trump just received a massive TWIST in his latest trial.
A Supreme Court Justice from Manhattan, Juan Merchan, filed a protective order allowing the jury to remain completely anonymous in the trial against Donald Trump.
Yes, you read that right.
Every juror’s identity on the case against Trump will remain concealed.
Merchan said that the jurors will remain anonymous because Trump “has an extensive history of publicly and repeatedly attacking trial jurors and grand jurors,” and went on to say that “there is a likelihood of bribery, jury tampering, or of physical injury or harassment of juror(s).”
Merchan also went on to discuss that despite the protective order that has been put in place, the jury selection will be a standard public draw and selection.
“To be clear, the parties have not requested, and this Court has not agreed, to close the Courtroom during the jury selection or at any other time during the proceedings. Access to the courtroom by the public and the press will not be tempered in any way as a result of these protective measures,” Merchan wrote.
Trump is going up against 34 felony counts all relating to falsifying records.
The former president has the odds going against him at this point.
Finding an unbiased jury will be extremely difficult.
Trump is a former president and known across the globe.
Selecting an entire jury full of citizens with an unbiased opinion will be very challenging.
This is a point that former federal prosecutor Josh Naftalis pointed out.
“Trying to find a pool of people who don’t know, don’t have a view about Trump or don’t know about the case is going to take time,” said Naftalis.
However, others like the former chief of the Manhattan district attorney’s trial division, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, seem more hopeful about the jury selection.
“There’s something very solemn about a courtroom and sitting in judgment of somebody — and you can hate someone and hate what they did, and still acquit because the prosecution didn’t prove it,” said Agnifilo.
Do you think the decision to keep Trump’s jury anonymous is a good one?
