Megyn Kelly suggested on Sirius XM with the “Ruthless” podcast that Senator Katie Britt from Alabama could be an unexpected contender for Donald Trump’s vice-presidential pick in 2024.
Kelly’s speculation arose after Trump mentioned in a Newsmax interview with Greg Kelly that he excluded some potential candidates for not behaving “properly.”
“Does ‘they didn’t behave appropriately,’ do you think — we’re trying to get into his mind — mean somebody who attacked him?” Kelly asked. “Because I think, I think he would have used a different word. You know, ‘They turned out to be losers.’ You know, I think he would have been stronger in his condemnation and he might have even named them, if they had actually slammed him.”
Michael Duncan pointed out Trump’s aversion to desperation, hinting that being overly eager for the position might lead to disqualification. Britt, having delivered the Republican rebuttal to Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address, became a focal point of Kelly’s theory despite doubts about her performance’s impact.
“My theory is it could be a reference to a rising star in the Republican Party who had such heat and buzz around them that they were asked to deliver the response to the State of the Union — and then bombed,” Kelly added.
Kelly emphasized the significance of not embarrassing Trump, noting his keen eye for television.
Reflecting on Britt’s State of the Union rebuttal, which faced criticism, Kelly remarked, “Okay. Zero chance he didn’t realize what a train wreck that was,” despite Trump’s public praise for Britt afterward. Kelly labeled Britt a “dark horse” for the vice-presidential nomination, highlighting the intrigue surrounding her potential candidacy.
Previously, Kelly criticized Britt’s speech as “totally cringe,” likening her emotional delivery to a Lifetime movie and suggesting it “embarrassed the Republicans.”
