CNBC Report: Larry Kudlow Will Be Named Trump’s Top Economic Advisor

CNBC is reporting that President Trump plans to announce that Larry Kudlow, the longtime host on that network, will replace Gary Cohn as the National Economic Council (NEC) director on Wednesday.

Cohn resigned from the position as the head of the NEC following Trump’s proposal to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum last week.

As the NEC director, Kudlow will be responsible for advising Trump on economic issues and working to implement Trump’s economic agenda.

Kudlow, who worked on economic policy in the Reagan administration, has long advocated for free trade on CNBC and is generally opposed to tariffs.

“We don’t agree on everything, but in this case, I think that’s good,” Trump said about Kudlow on Tuesday. “I want to have different opinions. We agree on most. He now has come around to believing in tariffs as a negotiating point.”

CNBC is reporting that Trump could make a formal announcement regarding Kudlow as soon as Thursday.
