English Defence League co-founder Tommy Robinson is a divisive figure in British politics – while he has his fanatical supporters, others are not exactly his biggest fans.
Now Robinson – real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – has shared footage showing him getting into a scrap with masked men outside a McDonald’s restaurant in London.
The political activist and journalist, who has previously been accused of stirring up hatred towards Muslims, said that he had been in London in order to report on a ‘left-wing conference’.
On his YouTube channel, Robinson shared footage of a number of men covering their faces or wearing balaclavas walking threateningly towards him in the McDonald’s car park in north London.
Robinson reported seeing ‘six or seven men coming towards me’ and ‘four of them went for me’ while the remainder of the group allegedly attacked his two camera people, a man and a woman.
In the extraordinary footage, you can even hear Robinson asking the men if they wanted to go ‘one and one’ before the men rush towards him and Robinson appears to drop his camera.
The two groups then begin throwing punches and kicks at each other with Robinson’s camerawoman being shown wrestled to the floor of the car park.
The fight is even shown spilling over to outside the McDonald’s itself with Robinson going toe to toe with several of the men before he is sent to the floor and repeatedly kicked.
