The CDU foreign policy expert Norbert Röttgen suggests that Hungary and Slovakia leave the European Union.
Berlin
– The newly elected Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini and Prime
Minister Robert Fico “openly sympathize” with Russian President Vladimir
Putin, the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is “Putin’s Trojan
horse in the EU” said Röttgen to the newspapers of the Funke media group
(Monday editions). “The EU must not and cannot tolerate this any
longer.” Russia’s war against Ukraine also has an existential dimension
for the EU, Röttgen continued. “Anyone who sides with the aggressor here
doesn’t belong in the EU.”
Orban’s “blackmail policy” can no
longer be honored, “he must be shown the door,” said the former federal
minister literally. “Slovakia will then have to decide whether it wants
to follow Orban or stay in the EU.”
