Donald Trump’s campaign team said on Friday that the tens of millions of people in the U.S. illegally want President Joe Biden to win in November because they know he won’t do anything to deport them.
Referring to details from a New York Post article released on Friday, the Trump Make America Great Again PAC informed supporters that the newspaper “reported Friday that illegal immigrants want Joe Biden to win reelection.”
The Post referenced interviews that The Free Press conducted with several migrants waiting to cross the southern border.
“If it’s Trump, it doesn’t matter how much I work or want to work. They won’t let me in,” Richard Betancourt, 46, a pipefitter from Venezuela, told The Free Press.
Added Daniel Cortez, 45, a mechanic from Honduras: “I want Biden to win.”
Both were in Matamoros, Mexico, waiting to cross the border.
According to a Gallup poll released in February, many Americans believe that immigration is the most important problem facing the U.S. today, making it a hot-button issue heading into the election.
The surge in border crossings has led to financial difficulties for several large cities, such as Denver, Chicago, New York, Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C., according to Axios.
In an email to supporters, Save America PAC quoted Rodney Scott, who served as Border Patrol chief in the Trump and Biden administrations.
In February, Scott told Fox News, “We handed them the most secure border in the history of the United States and a roadmap to keep it that way and make it even better. Through 94 executive actions, President Biden completely destroyed border security.”
