THE BRONX – Eight suspected migrants were arrested and charged after they were found by police squatting with guns and drugs in a Bronx home, where a young child was also found.
According to the NYPD, the suspects were busted last Wednesday just after 10 p.m. at a home on Hull Avenue, off East 207th Street in the Norwood section.
Investigators found two suspects with firearms in the basement of the home. After that, they found two more firearms, along with large amounts of drugs, including fentanyl. A young child was also found in the home.
According to ABC7, the home is located near a school.
Police were called to the home about 10:00 p.m. Wednesday of last week, about a man with a gun. When police arrived, they found the man pointing a pistol at someone while standing in the driveway.
The man, later identified as Hector Desousa-Villata, 24, an illegal alien from Venezuela, ran into the home and officers chased him down and arrested him. There they found 7 other illegal aliens, and a 7-year-old child, all squatting in a basement apartment of the house.
One man, Javier Alborno, 22, also an illegal alien from Venezuela, tried to flee the house with a handgun tucked under his arm, but police quickly caught him.
ABC7 wrote:
When authorities obtained a search warrant, they found two more loaded guns, three loaded extended magazines, ammunition, and a bag of ketamine mixed with cocaine.
It is unclear who the child belonged to.
Those arrested were identified as:
- Hector Desousa-Villalta, 24.
- Jaiver Alborno, 22.
- Yoessy Pino Castillo, 20.
- Yerbin Lozado-Munoz, 25.
- Yojairo Martinez, 42.
- Miquel Vaamondes-Barrios, 31.
- Jefferson Orlando Abreau, 39.
- Johan Cardenas Silva, 35.
Both Desousa-Villalta and Alborno were already known by police. Desousa-Villalta had been arrested for shooting a fellow migrant in the leg in August 2023 during a fight over a woman in Yonkers, but the case fell apart when the victim refused to cooperate, the New York Post reported.
Alborno had been arrested last September in the Bronx for possession of a loaded firearm, but had judge had set him free without bail.
After the group were discovered in the basement apartment Wednesday night, Desousa-Villalta and Alborno were reportedly being held on bail.
Vaamondes-Barrios was also held in custody on $25,000 bail, as he is wanted on shoplifting charges in both Pennsylvania and New York.
The others were all released, the NY Post reported.
The owner of the house reportedly didn’t know any of the people living in the basement, and said he had originally rented it to a man named Eduardo.
ABC7 quoted a neighbor as saying, “They’re squatters and the owner has been trying to get them out of the apartment for the longest period of time. I think he has a court date set, apparently because they’re squatters for more than 30 days….. they came, they were a disruptive force mainly because there were a lot of them. You didn’t know who was staying, not staying there, and the owner of the building had a hell of a time trying to get them out.”
“How they got in, I don’t know, but once they were in, because of NYC laws regarding squatters, he couldn’t get them out without going through the legal process,” the neighbor added.
