Former President Donald Trump just said that, if it comes to it, he would be glad to serve some time in prison.
Trump, in fact, even went so far as to say that, should this happen, he would become a “modern-day Nelson Mandela.”
The former president made the remark in a message that he posted to his Truth Social account on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Take a look:
Background
This is part of a series of statements that Trump released, on Saturday, about the so-called hush-money case that has been brought against him by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).
Bragg alleges that Trump criminally misrepresented the payment. Trump says that the claim is bogus, and he further alleges that Bragg is running election interference for President Joe Biden.
Recently, Trump has particularly been going after the judge overseeing the case, New York Judge Juan Merchan. Trump is currently trying to get Merchan removed from the case after it has been discovered that the judge’s daughter is a Democrat political activist who, as such, stands to profit from the prosecution of Trump.
Merchan has imposed a gag order on Trump that, in part, prevents Trump from publicly targeting the family members of those involved in the case.
Trump is now essentially daring Merchan to put him in jail for violating the gag order.
“I will gladly…”
In his Truth Social statement, Trump wrote, “Now, we have Merchan, who is not allowing me to talk, thereby violating the Law and the Constitution, all at once. It is so bad what he is trying to get away with – How was he even chosen for this case???”
The former president continued, “I heard he fought like hell to get it, and all of the rest of them also! If this Partisan Hack wants to put me in the ‘clink’ for speaking the open and obvious TRUTH, I will gladly become a Modern Day Nelson Mandela – It will be my GREAT HONOR.”
The Washington Examiner notes, “Mandela served 27 years in prison following his campaign to overthrow the apartheid government. Upon his release, he served a single term as the country’s president.”
Clearly, Trump believes that his 2024 campaign would only be helped by Merchan putting him into prison. We’ll have to see if the judge accepts Trump’s dare.
Trump concluded his message, writing, “We have to Save our Country from these Political Operatives masquerading as Prosecutors and Judges, and I am willing to sacrifice my Freedom for that worthy cause. We are a Failing Nation, but on November 5th, we will become a Great Nation again. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
